Listen not to the naysayers. All signs point to yes that this will be a fan pleaser.

Have I mentioned lately how March 2009 can’t effing come fast enough?
Despite all the ‘OMG! THEY’LL RUIN IT !!’ people, I’ll withhold judgement until I see it and continue to be stoked that one of the best graphic novels ever is being made into a film.
He’s in the best selling show

With the exception of certain shows, I’ve been disenchanted with TV programming in general for quite some time. It’s been a long while since I’ve felt moved by a TV show. I’ve been entertained by quite a few, but that’s about it. I was very pleased to find a show a few months ago that I’ve fallen in love with and am still fangirling after burning through the eps: Life on Mars. Simple descriptions of it don’t really do it justice, since it’s a show that needs to be seen to really feel the impact of it. A description in brief is that the main character, DCI Sam Tyler, is involved in an accident in the present day and is seemingly transported back to the year 1973 where he wonders if he is in a coma, actually in the past, or losing his mind. There, he tries to deal with being out of place in a very different police station than he’s been accustomed to, and often deals with situations that seem to have a basis to certain events or feelings of his past. I really can’t say enough good about this program. From the acting to the writing, it was just wonderful.
If you haven’t seen the UK series, you really should before the US redo comes out next year. I don’t have a lot of hope that what I love about the original won’t be destroyed in the remake (seen it happen too many times), but perhaps I’m speaking a little too soon. The problem is that the makers of the US show seem to be changing the plot and characters a lot from the original series from what I’ve read. I fear that what I loved about the original, everything that made the show moving and poignant and just plain human, will be lost. I might still give the new show a watch, but I just don’t think it will be able to recapture the spirit of what the first series had. It doesn’t seem like they’re even trying to do so. I think they’re just taking the general idea of the show without understanding what it was about it that made Life on Mars great.
Clip from the first ep, because you know I’ve got to put a vid clip in a blog post somewhere. Down the rabbit hole for Sam Tyler:
I’ll be giving the follow-up series, Ashes to Ashes, a go when I get a bit of time. I’m looking forward to it since I’ve heard good things about it.
